DOJO RULES AND REGULATIONS
  1. The most important rule of the Dojo is to be courteous and respectful at all times.
  2. Students are expected to attend all scheduled workouts and not to be absent other than at times when one is ill, etc.
  3. If a student arrives to class after the formal line-up, he/she may not enter the Dojo floor until acknowledged by the Sensei.
  4. Any student wishing to leave the Dojo floor during a formal workout prior to the end of the class, for whatever reason, may do so only after receiving permission from the Sensei.
  5. Students must wear a clean white traditional karate-gi to all workouts. Absolutely no jewelry of any kind may be worn during the workouts. Fingernails and toenails must ne trimmed.
  6. No student will ne admitted in the Dojo while under the influence of any intoxicant or drug.
  7. No swearing, obscene language, or horseplay of any sort will be allowed in the Dojo at any time. Eating and smoking are also not permitted in the Dojo.
  8. There shall be no unsupervised sparring in the Dojo, unless authorized by the Sensei. All striking techniques during sparring must be controlled.
  9. Do not handle any weapon in the Dojo without permission from the Sensei.
  10. Always be obedient to your instructors or one of higher rank, respect their knowledge and endeavor to increase your knowledge by being attentive. When with one of lower rank, treat them with kindness and impart what knowledge you can to them.
  11. Do not allow your obi (belt) to touch the floor if it can be avoided. Never throw your obi on the floor; it symbolizes your knowledge, treat it with respect.
  12. While in the Dojo, sit quietly and in a respectful pose. Do not make unnecessary conversation. Watch others and learn by their good points as well as their bad, always be observing. When a student wishes to ask a question during the class, he/she should raise a hand and wait to be acknowledged.
  13. Students should always speak with the utmost respect when referring to the GoJu-Ryu system, or the Sensei. Students shall not make any derogatory remarks about any style or system as all should be treated with respect.
  14. When the Sensei enters the Dojo, the first person on the Dojo floor who notices his appearance, regardless of rank, should immediately yell "KIOTSUKE" (attention).
  15. Every student should take pride in keeping the Dojo floor and its surroundings neat and clean. This is your Dojo; you should regard it as a privilege to contribute to its maintenance. The Dojo floor should be swept prior to each workout, any lower ranked student observing a higher ranked one engaged in sweeping or cleaning the Dojo should immediately offer to help or take over the task. When you clean the floor, think of cleaning your mind.
  16. Visiting students from other schools, styles and systems are always welcome and should be treated with respect and in accordance with their ranks.
  17. A student ranked in a different style, prior to enrolling in this school, will wear a white belt.
  18. Students of this school may compete in Karate tournaments only when authorized by the Sensei.
  19. All classes in the Dojo should be formal. All students, regardless of rank or age, should always be address as Sempai.
  20. Students should always bow upon entering and leaving the Dojo.
  21. Absolutely no shoes of any sort may be worn by anyone on the Dojo floor. No exceptions at any time.
  22. The Dojo is a place not only to build the body and mind, but also a place to build character, and in order to do this, one must be disciplined in order that he may coordinate the mind and body and make the most efficient use of his/her physical and mental energies.
  23. All fees will be paid on time (by the first class of the month).
  24. Infraction of any of the above rules may result in penalties ranging from push-ups to being expelled. Any student misusing the art of Karate to injure another human in a situation not involving the defense of oneself will be expelled.
  25. Always conduct yourself in a manner that would not bring shame or discredit to the Dojo, your teachers, or fellow students. Keep a strong, healthful and clean mind and body. Let your actions while outside the Dojo reflect the teachings of Karate-do.
  26. The ultimate goal of Karate-do is not only the perfection of one's Waza (technique), even though they may be excellent, but the mind, heart, body and spirit of the student must be clean to accomplish the "Way" or learn the true meaning or teachings of Karate-do.

These rules and regulations are intended as guidelines and will be advanced and expanded through your training.
